In its May, 2018 issue, Hospital News profiled Dr. Bimpe Ayeni’s work to give breast cancer patients a reconstruction option with shorter wait times and a faster recovery.

Dr. Bimpe Ayeni's article in Hosptial NewsThe decision to have reconstructive surgery after a mastectomy is a very personal choice. Recognizing this choice is also a scary time in patients’ lives, Southlake’s Dr. Bimpe Ayeni identified a need to help breast cancer patients realize that there are less invasive options.

In fact, Dr. Ayeni offers one less invasive solution for those weighing their options for breast cancer reconstruction: the DIEP flap procedure. For this procedure, the surgeon takes abdominal skin, tissue and vessels from the lower abdomen and brings it to the chest to shape and create a natural looking breast.

In learning to perform this less invasive surgical procedure for patients, Dr. Ayeni is creating the ultimate patient experience, with shorter wait times than up to five months at downtown hospitals. She performed the first DIEP flap procedure at Southlake in late 2016 and continues to give patients this close to home option.

In this video, Dr. Ayeni explains how this procedure is providing phenomenal health outcomes for our patients.
